ABC National Safety Award

WT Byler Earns National Safety Excellence Award from Associated Builders and Contractors

WASHINGTON D.C. - Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today announced that WT Byler Co - Houston, maintained a safety record that has earned the company recognition in the Heavy and Civil Engineering Contractor category of ABC's National Safety Excellence Awards.

"ABC is proud to honor WT Byler Co with a National Safety Excellence Award for demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to safety and outstanding safety performance," said Michael D. Bellaman, ABC president and CEO. "WT Byler Co has truly shown a dedication to becoming one of the leaders for the industry by striving to create the safest work environment possible for its employees."

The 2011 National Safety Excellence Award winners were selected from ABC member firms that achieved Diamond and Platinum status in ABC's Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program. During the selection process, national safety winners were judged on self-evaluation scores, lost workday case rates, total recordable rates, and interviews conducted by members of ABC's National Environment, Health & Safety Committee.

Two WT Byler Co team members; Wendell Rychlik - Director of Business Development & Marketing and Geoffrey Pospisil - Director of Safety & Risk Management received the award on behalf of the entire WT Byler Co team at a dinner on Wednesday, February 22cd at the Arizona Biltmore - Phoenix, Arizona.

"We work hard to produce best possible product for our customers'" said Rychlik. "The companies we support have helped to shape our cities and communities. Providing them with our services is very important to us and this award sends them a strong message that we have a genuine commitment to workplace safety... and quality."

Commitment to Excellence

The National Safety Excellence Awards are presented in three major North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code categories: NAICS 236 - Construction of Buildings; NAICS 237 - Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction; and NAICS 238 - Specialty Trade Contractors. Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national association with 74 chapters representing 22,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms. There were 750 member companies across the nation invited to apply for the award and only seventeen winners. Houston firms were winners of six of the awards. WT Byler Co was named "Safest in the Nation Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction to One-Million Man-Hours Category."

Side Note

Mitt Romney - Governor of Massachusetts and United States presidential candidate was on hand the following morning addressing the ABC board regarding his request for ABC's endorsement.

Governor Romney is committed to ABC's merit shop philosophy and to generating more right to work states.
